COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M freshman Melissa Dumezich earned her first Big 12 Pitcher of the Week award, announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

From Whiting, Ind., Dumezich struck out a career-high 11 against Kansas en route to 18 K's on the weekend in 12 and two-thirds innings pitched. The Aggie hurler posted a 0.00 ERA, gave up just four hits and went 2-0 on the week to improve her overall record to 8-0.

She held her opponents to a .098 batting average and No. 8 Georgia Tech without a run and just two hits in five and two-thirds innings of relief work. She also fanned five in the game. In one inning of relief work against Kansas Saturday, Dumezich forced a groundout and struck out two.

In her first start of the week on Sunday, she threw a no-hitter through five and two-thirds innings (of a six-inning game), held the Jayhawks to just two hits and posted a new career high in strikeouts. The only run Dumezich gave up all weekend came on a passed ball.

This is the second week in a row an Aggie was named player of the week and the third award for Texas A&M this season. Freshman Meagan May (Feb. 16 and March 23) is a two-time honoree.

The Aggies continue Big 12 play this week and travel to Baylor on Wednesday for a 6:30 p.m. game against the Bears.
