COLUMBUS, Ohio - Texas A&M women's basketball signee Karla Gilbert (College Station, Texas) scored 15 points to lead the West team past the East, 84-75, in the 2010 McDonald's High School All-American Basketball Game held Wednesday night at Value City Arena on The Ohio State University campus.
Gilbert, a 6-foot-4 center out of A&M Consolidated High School, was recently named to the 2010 PARADE All-America High School Girls Basketball Second Team. She was one of four players selected by the publication from the state of Texas. An all-state first team selection, Gilbert will also compete this weekend in the WBCA All-America Game to be held on April 3 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, site of the 2010 NCAA Women's Final Four.
"We watched the game tonight as a team and it was fun to see our recruit play as well as she did," Texas A&M head coach Gary Blair said. "I thought Karla had an outstanding game and would have been a viable candidate for MVP. I hope she continues her good play this weekend in San Antonio."
Gilbert is the third all-time McDonald's All-American and highest-rated player to ever sign with the Aggies. Rated the No. 9 overall prospect in the Class of 2010 and No. 1 post player in the country by ESPN HoopGurlz, she is a second generation Aggie as her father, Jimmie Gilbert, played for the A&M men's basketball team from 1983-86.
