Texas A&M senior Julia Boland fired a three-under par 69 to challenge for the individual lead at the Rebel Intercollegiate on Saturday at the Ole Miss Golf Course.
Boland's round helped A&M improve to a seven-over 295, and climb into a tie for third in the team standings. For the tournament, the Aggies are 17-over par (298-295=593) and enter Sunday's final round 11 shots behind leader Tulane (290-292=582).
“We did play better but we still left a few shots out there,” Aggie women's golf coach Trelle McCombs said. “We are putting ourselves in a great position to do something special on Sunday. The girls are in a great frame of mind to do it.”
Boland offset a pair of bogeys with five birdies, including a birdie on the 18th hole for the second straight day. For the tournament, Boland is two-under (73-69=142) and is tied for second with Tulane's Linn Gustafsson. Boland and Gustafsson are chasing individual leader Julia Potter of Missouri, who is six-under par after two rounds.
“Julia played great all day with the exception of a couple of putts,” McCombs said.
Senior Ashley Freeman shot a 76 on Saturday and fell to 11th at three-over (71-76=147). Junior Sarah Beth Davis turned in a 77 and is in a tie for 66th place at 13-over. Freshman Chloe Garner shot an 81 and is also in 66th place at 13-over (76-81=157). Playing as an individual, freshman Aly Smith turned in her second-straight 79 and stands in 77th place at 14-over.
The top 10 teams after two rounds are Tulane (+11), East Tennessee State (+14), Texas A&M (+17), Mississippi (+17), Arkansas-Little Rock (+19), Missouri (+19), Kansas (+29), Augusta State (+30), Middle Tennessee State (+32) and Oklahoma (+33).
