The No. 4 Texas A&M men's golf team stands in fifth place after two rounds of the 44th annual Morris Williams Invitational on Monday at the University of Texas Golf Club. The Aggies resume action at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
The Aggies carded rounds of 14-over 298 and 10-over 294 on Monday, and go into Tuesday's final round 13 shots behind leader Texas (+11). A&M (+24) is also chasing New Mexico (+12), Texas Tech (+18) and LSU (+22).
“The course played really long and tough in the wind,” Aggie golf coach J.T. Higgins said. “As has been the case lately, we got off to a slow start but kept it together and played pretty well in the afternoon. These guys have so much heart and I think they are planning to continue to climb up the leaderboard.”
A&M was led by senior Andrea Pavan and freshman Cameron Peck, who both stand in a tie for 14th at five over. Pavan shot rounds of 73-74 and Peck fired rounds of 75-72 to get to 147. Junior Nacho Elvira is tied for 23rd at six-over after rounds of 75-73=148. Sophomore Jordan Russell is tied for 32nd at plus-eight after rounds of 75-75=150. Junior John Hurley is tied for 61st at 13-over after rounds of 77-78=155. Junior Conrad Shindler was a late scratch from the scoring team after contracting a stomach virus, but turned in rounds of 73-72=145 and is tied for eighth at three-over.
