COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas A&M softball team opens a five-game homestand at the Aggie Softball Complex this week, beginning with Stephen F. Austin at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The meeting between the two teams was originally scheduled for a twin bill on Feb. 23, but was moved to a single contest April 6 because of snow.
A&M steps out of league play Tuesday to face the Ladyjacks (20-8) who are riding a season-long, seven-game winning streak.
After starting Big 12 action with a series sweep of Kansas at home, the Aggies (30-9) dropped two of three league games on the road last week for a 3-2 record in the conference and a 3-3 mark in their last six games.
Freshman Rhi Kliesing has a team-leading .429 average with six hits, two doubles, a home run and six RBIs.
Freshman Melissa Dumezich (8-0) posts the best season ERA for A&M at 1.62 and has struck out 65 in 65 innings of work.
SFA is hitting .284 as a team and Briana Bishop leads the way with a .366 average. The senior from College Station has a team-high 30 hits, six home runs and 20 RBIs. Four other Ladyjacks are hitting over .300. Monika Covington (8-5) has carried the majority of the load in the circle with a 2.38 ERA and 100 K's in 106 innings pitched. The team is at the top of the Southland Conference with a 13-2 record.
A&M is 46-5 all-time against SFA, but the Ladyjacks won the last meeting, 8-4, at the Aggie Softball Complex in 2009. The Aggies took three straight from SFA in 2008.

LAST TIME OUT
No. 18 Texas A&M rallied for a come-from-behind, 6-3, win at Nebraska before falling, 8-3, for a doubleheader split on Saturday afternoon at Bowlin Stadium. The Aggies fell behind early both games, but fought back and scored five runs in the sixth inning for the win in game one. The Huskers, however, put up a six-spot in the sixth inning of the second game for the victory.
AGGIE CONNECTIONS
SFA head coach, Gay McNutt, was a four-year starter behind the plate at Texas A&M, starring for the Aggies from 1982-1985. She was named to the all-region team each of those four years and earned All-American honors as a senior in 1985. McNutt, who served as team captain in each of her last two seasons at A&M, helped lead the Aggies to a pair of national championships.
