THE WOODLANDS, Texas - Texas A&M soccer signee Sara Ellis (The Woodlands, Texas) recently led the Lady Highlanders to a Class 5A state soccer championship. The Woodlands defeated McKinney Boyd, 3-2, for the state title in Georgetown, Texas.
Ellis and the Lady Highlanders (30-2) made their second straight appearance in the state championship and won its first girls soccer title. The game-winning goal came on a penalty kick with 2:11 remaining in regulation.
Ellis, the niece of former A&M coach R.C. Slocum, is a versatile player in the field with experience at a variety of positions. Set to join the Texas A&M soccer team for the 2010 season, Ellis' father is an Aggie, and she will follow two siblings who are currently enrolled at A&M.
Ellis is also a member of the Challenge Soccer Club and joins a long list of Aggie players who have been developed in Pat O'Toole's program, including current A&M players Whitney Hooper, Nicole Ketchum, Amber and Lyndsey Gnatzig, Katie Hamilton, Kat Armstrong, and Megan Majewski.
