IRVING, Texas - The 10th-ranked Texas A&M men's tennis team had three of its own recently crowned Big 12 Conference singles and doubles champions by position.
It marked the first time in school history and the 14-year history of the league to have three A&M singles players and one doubles team win a Big 12 position title in the same season. The Aggies previously had three players win a singles title (with no doubles title) during the 2003 and 2004 campaigns.
Junior All-American and seventh-ranked Austin Krajicek (Brandon, Fla.) compiled a 5-1 league record at No. 1 singles which tied Oklahoma State's Oleksandr Nedovyesov, while junior Alexey Grigorov (Moscow, Russia) went 5-1 to capture the No. 4 singles title outright. Junior Jeff Dadamo (Tampa, Fla.) put together a 4-2 record at No. 2 singles which tied Texas' Ed Corrie.
Krajicek and Dadamo, currently No. 5 nationally in the latest Campbell/ITA rankings, posted a 4-2 mark at No. 1 doubles along with the Oklahoma State tandem of Aleksey Bessonov and Nedovyesov. They become only the second Aggie duo to be crowned No. 1 doubles champions next to former standouts Brett Joelson and two-time All-American Ante Matijevic in 2005.
A&M has now produced five all-time No. 1 singles champions with the addition of Krajicek and six No. 2 singles champions with Dadamo. Grigorov becomes only the second Aggie to claim the No. 4 singles title next to Khaled El Dorry in 2004.
