COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M freshman Melissa Dumezich was named the final Big 12 Softball Pitcher of the Week for the 2010 season, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
From Whiting, Ind., Dumezich held No. 11 Oklahoma State to a single run twice and a .184 batting average in a doubleheader sweep last week.
The right-hander posted a 1.00 ERA and threw a two-hit, complete game for her first win. After OSU scored in that game, Dumezich retired 15 of the last 16 batters, including retiring the side in order in four of the last five innings.
In addition, after the Cowgirls scored their lone run in game two, she retired 10 of the last 12 hitters for her second, complete-game win of the week.
This is the second pitcher of the week honor for Dumezich and the fourth weekly award for Texas A&M this season. Freshman Meagan May (Feb. 16 and March 23) is also a two-time honoree.
Dumezich and the No. 19 Texas A&M softball team travel to the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Okla., this weekend as the No. 3 seed in the Big 12 Championship. A&M faces No.-6 seed Nebraska at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the single-elimination tournament.
