Irving, Texas - Texas A&M placed 23 athletes on the 2010 Academic All-Big 12 track and field team, which was announced this week by the conference office.
The Aggie men had 12 athletes named Academic All-Big 12, with seven earning first team honors and five were selected second team. The A&M women totaled 11 athletes as well, with eight first team selections and three on the second team.
To qualify for the honor an athlete must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence.
First team selections consist of athletes who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team selections are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
First team members on the men's squad included a pair of 4.0 GPA's for Trinity Otto (Rec Parks & Tourism Science, Lindsay, Texas), Joe Sauvageau (Petroleum Engineering, Katy, Texas).
Women's first team members include Sandy Wooten (Sport Management, Mineral Wells, Texas).
Second team honorees for the men include Brett Bennett (Mechanical Engineering, Houston, Texas), Nick Cook (Mechanical Engineering, Cleveland, Texas), De'Lon Isom (Psychology, Harrisburg, PA), and Joey Roberts (Civil Engineering, San Antonio, Texas).
Named to the women's second team were Elizabeth Adeoti (Biomedical Science, Houston, Texas), Hillary Pustka (Kinesiology, Shiner, Texas).
