STILLWATER, Okla. - Brodie Greene had three hits and two RBIs to lead Texas A&M to a 6-1 win over Oklahoma State and a series sweep Sunday afternoon before 504 fans at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
With the win, the Aggies (33-18-1, 12-11-1) clinched a spot in the upcoming Big 12 Championship and earned their first league sweep of 2010. The Cowboys (28-23, 8-16) have lost three straight games at home for only the second time in the 29-year history of Reynolds Stadium.
"This sweep was huge," A&M coach Rob Childress said. "Where we were coming in, for us to have the week we had says a lot about the character of our guys. We pitched it as good as we could have pitched it, played great defense and had a lot of big hits. It was a great all-around weekend in every phase of the game."
The Aggies struck quick off OSU starter Andrew Heaney, as Brodie Greene launched a solo home run to left in the first.
Wacha turned away State in the last half of the inning, retiring the 3-4-5 hitters in order after allowing back-to-back singles to open the game. It would be one of OSU's few threats of the day.
In the third, RBI doubles by Greene and Matt Juengel extended the lead to 3-0, and an ensuing wild pitch plated the Aggies' fourth run.
Nico Rosthenhausler drove home the Pokes' only run in the sixth, doubling inside the bag at first to score Luis Uribe.
A&M tacked on two insurance runs in the eighth on a Juengel home run and Andrew Collazo squeeze bunt.
Wacha (7-2) went a career-high eight-plus innings, giving up nine hits, a run and a walk while punching out three. John Stilson got the final three outs of the game on three pitches.
Heaney (5-2) suffered the loss, allowing six hits, four runs and three walks over 6.1 innings. He struck out six on the day.
Greene finished the afternoon 3-for-4 with the double, home run and two RBIs. Juengel added two hits and two RBIs. Rosthenhausler had three hits to lead OSU.
Texas A&M closes the regular season with four games at Olsen Field this week. The Aggies host UT Arlington on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. before opening a weekend set against Kansas State on Friday evening. Tickets are available online at tickets.12thmanfoundation.com or at the Olsen Field box office on game day.
