COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M freshmen Meagan May and Melissa Dumezich were named to the Big 12 Softball Championship All-Tournament team, the conference office announced.
May, from Spring, Texas, smacked her 22nd home run of the season Saturday against the eventual Big 12 Champions, Oklahoma. The long ball positioned May in a three-way tie for first in the Big 12 record book for most home runs in a single season. She also drew three walks, two of which were intentional, for a .667 on base percentage and 1.333 slugging percentage on the weekend.
A native of Whiting, Ind., Dumezich struck out 16 batters in 14 innings of work at the Big 12 Tournament. She recorded a two-hit shutout against Nebraska and held both opponents to a .222 batting average. At the plate, Dumezich added two hits, including a home run, a pair of RBIs and two runs scored.
May and Dumezich marked the first time in program history that two freshmen received the all-tournament accolades. It was the 14th and 15th all-tournament honors for Texas A&M softball.
