No. 18 Softball Heads to Baton Rouge Regional

The No. 18 Texas A&M softball team heads to Baton Rouge, La., this weekend for its 21st appearance in the NCAA Division I Softball Championship. The Aggies face Louisiana-Lafayette Friday at 3:30 p.m.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The No. 18 Texas A&M softball team heads to Baton Rouge, La., this weekend for its 21st appearance in the NCAA Division I Softball Championship. The Aggies face Louisiana-Lafayette Friday at 3:30 p.m. in its first game of the regional. No. 12 seed LSU follows against McNeese State at 6 p.m.

The weekend is double-elimination and the winner advances to the super regional, May 28-29, versus the winner of the Los Angeles Regional hosted by No. 5 seed UCLA.

In its ninth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament, the Aggies (42-14) were an at-large selection, along with LSU (44-14). Louisiana-Lafayette (42-16) and McNeese State (38-25) were both awarded automatic qualification.

Texas A&M begins the postseason on the road for the second consecutive year and enters the regional after falling in the semifinals of the Big 12 Championship. The Aggies have won seven of their last eight games.

The Ragin' Cajuns go into the weekend after claiming their third-straight Sun Belt Tournament Championship. UL has won nine of its last 10 games. The Cowgirls upset the top two seeds for the Southland Conference Tournament title and have won seven of their last eight contests. The Tigers fell to Alabama in the Southeastern Conference Tournament final and are 4-4 in their last eight games, all of which were against top 20 programs.

LAST TIME OUT
Texas A&M freshman Alex Reynolds, Dumezich and freshman Lauren Schwirtlich were selected to the second team. Kliesing was a unanimous, first-team selection and was recognized with the honor for the second straight year. Reynolds is also a two-time award winner. In addition, three freshmen is the most all-time that the Aggies have placed on the All-Big 12 teams.

MAY SELECTED TO 2010 USA SOFTBALL FUTURES NATIONAL TEAM
May is one of 18 elite athletes chosen for the Futures Team, which consists of athletes who currently play or have played at 13 schools in six DI conferences. As a member of the Futures Team, May will play exhibition games against the 2010 USA Softball Women's National Team in Canton and Ashland, Ohio, June 16-17. She will also compete against the National Teams of Canada, Japan and the USA at the 2010 World Cup of Softball, July 22-26, at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Okla. The Aggie catcher will also fill spots on the USA team competing at the Canadian Open Fast Pitch International Championship, July 7-11, in Surrey, B.C., and exhibition games in Whitehorse, Yukon, July 13-14.
