COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M All-Americans Austin Krajicek (pronounced CRY-check) and Jeff Dadamo (pronounced duh-DOM-oh) are ready to compete in the 2010 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Singles and Doubles Championship this week at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the campus of host University of Georgia in Athens, Ga.
Krajicek, who is currently ranked No. 6 nationally in the Campbell/ITA rankings, is seeded fifth in the 64-player singles championship draw and will take on No. 33-ranked Marcel Thiemann of Ole Miss in the first round on Wednesday, May 26 at 12:30 p.m. (ET) - 11:30 a.m. (CT). It will be a rematch for Krajicek and Thiemann who played each other in their respective teams' NCAA second round meeting in College Station on May 15. Krajicek is making his second all-time appearance in the NCAA Singles Championship and is 23-11 overall on the season.
Dadamo, ranked No. 39 nationally, will face No. 26-ranked Steven Forman of Wake Forest in the first round on Wednesday at 10 a.m. (ET) - 9 a.m. (CT). Dadamo is the reigning Big 12 Conference Newcomer of the Year, while Krajicek was the co-Big 12 Player of the Year. Dadamo has put together a team-leading 27-12 overall record and is making his first NCAA singles appearance.
Dadamo and Krajicek are also seeded No. 5-8 in the 32-team doubles championship draw and will square off against No. 14-ranked Drew Courtney and Michael Shabaz of Virginia in the first round on Thursday, May 27 at a time still to be determined by singles play.
The Aggie duo has compiled a 19-9 overall record this season and upset the then top-ranked team in the country in 2009 NCAA runner-up John-Patrick Smith and Davey Sandgren of Tennessee in the quarterfinals of the prestigious ITA National Indoor Championships in the fall. They later fell to this year's top-seeded and top-ranked pairing of Reid Carleton and Henrique Cunha of Duke in the semifinals. Krajicek made a program-best NCAA doubles semifinals appearance as a freshman with former three-time All-American Conor Pollock (2006-09) in 2008.
