The defending NCAA Champion Texas A&M men's golf team fell to 25th after struggling in the second round of the 2010 NCAA Championships on Wednesday at The Honors Course.

With second-round play called due to darkness, the Aggies finished the day 12 shots out of the top eight. Only the top eight after 54 holes advance to the match play portion of the NCAA Championships. The Aggies shot a 16-over par 304 and are 13-over for the tournament. The top eight going into Thursday are Florida State (-14), Oklahoma State (-9), Georgia Tech (-4), Augusta State (-1), Florida (even), San Diego (even), Washington (+1) and Clemson (+1).

“We picked a bad day to have our worst round,” Aggie coach J.T. Higgins said. “We made a lot of big numbers (on Wednesday), and the most disappointing part of that is many of those came from the fairway. As bad as it was, I still think we are capable of putting up a great score on this course. It will take an incredible round on our part, but this is a special group of young men and I know when they put it all together, they can do anything.”

The Aggies were paced by freshman Andrea Pavan shot a 4-over 76 and is tied for 68th at 3-over. Junior Conrad Shindler shot an 81 and is tied for 136th, while sophomore Jordan Russell had an 82 and is tied for 154th.

Rounding out the team standings after the top eight were Oregon (+2), Arizona State (+2), Virginia (+3), Stanford (+4), UCLA (+4), North Florida (+8), USC (+9), Kent State (+9), LSU (+10), Texas (+10), UNLV (+10), Baylor (+11), California (+11), Texas Tech (+11), Oregon State (+12), Illinois (+12), Texas A&M, Tennessee (+14), Duke (+15), Georgia Southern (+16), TCU (+22), Penn State (+23).

Play was halted at 8:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The second round will finish starting at 7 a.m. Thursday. Third round is ESTIMATED to start around 9 a.m., but no earlier than 9 a.m. (all times are eastern).
