COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M pitcher John Stilson was named Tuesday to the Yahoo! Sports All-America baseball team.
Stilson, a sophomore from Texarkana, went 9-1 with 10 saves, and broke a 40-year-old school record by posting an incredible 0.80 ERA. The hard-throwing right-hander allowed just 12 runs (seven earned) in 79 innings of work, striking out 114 and holding hitters to a .181 average, and was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Year for his efforts. He picked up a win and a save in NCAA Regional play at Miami, earning a spot on the regional's all-tournament team.
Stilson joined Texas pitchers Chance Ruffin and Taylor Jungmann as the Big 12's representatives on the team.
Texas A&M finished the season at 43-21-1, claiming the school's fifth Big 12 title in Oklahoma City and advancing to the finals of the NCAA Coral Gables Regional.
