WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - Texas A&M men's tennis All-American Austin Krajicek (pronounced CRY-check) was one of 25 top American collegiate players named to the 2010 USTA Summer Collegiate Team as announced by the USTA and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) on Thursday.
Krajicek, a talented lefty from Brandon, Fla., finished the 2010 season ranked No. 16 nationally in the final ITA singles rankings and No. 6 nationally in the doubles rankings with fellow Aggie All-American Jeff Dadamo of Tampa, Fla. He was also tabbed Co-Big 12 Conference Player of the Year and earned All-Big 12 singles and doubles honors for the third consecutive season.
One of the most decorated players in school history, Krajicek was named the 2010 ITA National Player to Watch, only the second Aggie ever to receive such distinction. He was one of three players including Steve Johnson of USC and Bradley Klahn of Stanford, to be selected to the men's team for the second consecutive year.
The USTA Summer Collegiate Team is an elite training program for the nation's top American tennis players. The program began in 1996 and is funded by the USTA. It is designed to provide college players with valuable exposure to the USTA Pro Circuit in a team-oriented environment during the summer months. Chris Brandi, an assistant coach at Baylor, and Bo Hodge, an assistant coach at Alabama, will coach the men's team.
In addition to competing on the USTA Pro Circuit, USTA Player Development will host two Pro Tour Transition camps - one for men, one for women - for the selected players. The men's camp will be held on June 21-24 on clay courts in Boca Raton, Fla., and coached by USTA National Coach David Dilucia.
Current pros who were members of prior USTA Summer Collegiate Teams include: James Blake, Bob and Mike Bryan, Amer Delic, Laura Granville, John Isner, Jesse Levine, Todd Paul, Sam Warburg and Jesse Witten.
