OHIO - Texas A&M softball rising sophomore Meagan May began her USA Softball career this week when she played with the USA Softball Futures Team in a pair of doubleheader exhibitions in Canton and Ashland, Ohio.
From Spring, Texas, May was one of 18 elite athletes chosen for the Futures team. She started two games at catcher and saw time behind the plate in three contests against the USA Softball Women's National Team.
"It was awesome playing in my first games with the Futures team the past two days," May said. It's been surreal so far, being on the field with such good players, and playing against the National team! They are all such incredible athletes. And even though the fans were cheering for the National team, the crowds were really great."
The Aggie All-American will take a break from play until she fills a spot on the USA team competing at the Canadian Open Fast Pitch International Championship, July 7-11, in Surrey, B.C., and exhibition games in Whitehorse, Yukon, July 13-14. May then competes against the National Teams of Canada, Japan and the USA at the 2010 World Cup of Softball, July 22-26, at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Okla.
In addition to being named an All-American in her freshman campaign at Texas A&M, May was honored as a member of the Central All-Region first team, the All-Big 12 first team, the Big 12 Championship All-Tournament team, the NCAA Baton Rouge All-Regional team, and was a two-time Big 12 Player of the Week. She also set the A&M and the Big 12 single season home run records with 24 long balls in the 2010 season.
