DES MOINES, Iowa - Nine Texas A&M athletes will be competing at the U.S. Championships and U.S. Junior Championships this weekend on the campus of Drake University.
Entered in the junior meet are Donique' Flemings (100H, 400H) and Casey Strong (Hammer). The top two finishers in the U.S. Junior Championships will qualify for the World Junior Championships, being held in Moncton, Canada, from July 19-25.
Aggies competing in the U.S. Championships are Ashika Charan (Triple Jump), Porscha Lucas (200m), Curtis Mitchell (200m), Trinity Otto (Decathlon), Zuheir Sharif (Triple Jump) and Tyron Stewart (Triple Jump).
The USATF Championships will be held at Drake Stadium from Thursday through Sunday. Coverage of the meet will be available on ESPN as well as NBC.
A live web cast is available through www.usatf.org. ESPN will air coverage on June 25 (7 to 9 p.m.), June 26 (noon to 1:30 p.m.), and June 27 (noon to 1:30 p.m.). NBC will air on June 26 (2 to 3 p.m.) and June 27 (2 to 3 p.m.).
During the U.S. Junior Championships, Flemings competes first in the 100 hurdles on Thursday at 2 p.m. Strong will contest the hammer starting at 10:15 a.m. on Friday. Flemings then runs the 400 hurdles on Friday at 1:50 p.m.
In the U.S. Championships, Charan will be in the women's triple jump on Thursday at 6:20 p.m. while Tarmoh opens the first round of the 100 that evening at 7:10 p.m.
Otto begins the decathlon on Friday with the 100 meters beginning at 10:30 a.m. Sharif and Stewart will compete in the triple jump at 6 p.m. on Friday.
The first round of the 200 for Lucas and Mitchell will be on Saturday at 4:05 p.m. for the men and 4:30 p.m. for the women.
