"Tobi was a very special young man and he will always be an Aggie," Texas A&M men's basketball coach Mark Turgeon said. "We will never forget Tobi or his family."
"Tobi was two weeks away from enrolling in summer school and joining our basketball team," Turgeon said. "We will remember him for his gentle spirit, academic prowess and his tenacity on the court."
Oyedeji was an Academic All-American basketball player from Houston's Bellaire High School averaging just under 16 points and eight rebounds a game as he earned All-State honors. He scored 19 points, had seven rebounds and blocked five shots in the Academic All-American All-Star Game.
Oyedeji died from injuries suffered in a car accident in Houston in May. In remembrance of Tobi, the Texas A&M men's basketball program has established the Tobi Oyedeji endowed scholarship through the 12th Man Foundation.
"It is my hope that this scholarship fund will continually honor Tobi's charismatic personality and his endearing spirit," Turgeon said.
