2010-11 Texas A&M Women's Basketball Non-Conference Schedule ![]()
COLLEGE STATION, Texas - A challenging early 2010-11 season slate will put the defending Big 12 Conference tournament champion Texas A&M women's basketball team in a favorable position it has grown accustomed to over the last five years as 11 of the Aggies' 13 non-conference opponents advanced to postseason play a year ago.
A&M, which has finished ranked in the top 10 in the final Associated Press Top 25 Poll the last three consecutive seasons, will compete in two of the premier fall women's basketball tournaments in the country - participating in the Jimmy V Women's Basketball Classic versus perennial power and 2010 Elite Eight participant Duke on Dec. 6 at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, N.C., on ESPN2 and the Maggie Dixon Classic against Rutgers on Dec. 19 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Defending national champion Connecticut and Ohio State also highlight the Maggie Dixon Classic tournament field.
"Our schedule, particularly over the last three years, has given us one of the top RPIs in the country and helped us earn a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament," said head coach Gary Blair, who has led the Aggies to a school-record five consecutive postseason appearances since 2006. "We are playing a number of quality opponents this season and feel we have assembled one of our best road schedules to date."
The Aggies will face 2010 Sun Belt Conference champion and NCAA second round participant Arkansas-Little Rock in their season opener on Nov. 16 at Reed Arena. In fact, A&M will play 14 regular-season contests on its home court compiling an unprecedented 69-7 (.908) record at Reed Arena over the last five years under Blair.
Four days later, the Aggies take a road trip to old Southwest Conference rival Rice in Houston on Nov. 20 followed by a home tilt with Big South Conference champion and NCAA participant Liberty on Nov. 22 in College Station.
As in years past, A&M will spend the Thanksgiving holiday in paradise at the Cancun Thanksgiving Classic hosted by Sports Tours International in Cancun, Mexico. A rematch with Arizona of the Pac-10 Conference and 2010 Postseason WNIT semifinalist Michigan of the Big Ten Conference is scheduled on Nov. 26 and No. 27 respectively. The Aggies last faced the Wildcats and Wolverines on each team's home turf during the 2008-09 campaign.
A&M will then return to the continental U.S. to host 2010 Postseason WNIT champion California on Dec. 3 along with much-anticipated home matchups with 1999 national champion Purdue in the Big 12/Big Ten Challenge on Dec. 9 and Mountain West Conference champion and NCAA participant TCU on Dec. 12.
The Aggies will close out the month of December at another sunny beach locale as part of a four-team tournament field at the Surf ¡®N Slam College Hoop Classic hosted by Basketball Travelers, Inc., in San Diego, Calif. A&M will take on Postseason WNIT participant Drexel in a first-time meeting between both schools on Dec. 28 and either host San Diego State or UTSA in the championship or consolation game on Dec. 30. Last year, SDSU reached the NCAA Sweet 16 knocking off rival Texas at the Austin first-and-second round regional site.
A&M will ring in the New Year with Louisiana-Monroe on Jan. 4 at Reed Arena, prior to its 16-game Big 12 Conference schedule which will be released at a later date.
