CEVENTRY, UK - Texas A&M soccer player Rachel Shipley was one of 18 players to suit up for the U.S. Under-23 Women's National Team in the Four Nations Tournament held at the University of Warwick. The competition featured U-23 sides from England, Norway and Sweden.
From Plano, Texas, Shipley earned a spot on the team after being brought to a week-long U-23 WNT camp at the end of June.
The Aggie midfielder and the U.S. U-23 WNT worked their way to the tournament title with a 2-1 record. The USA downed England, 3-0, to open the tournament, before it fell to Norway, 2-1, due to two late goals. In its final match the U-23 WNT shutout Sweden, 1-0, to win the international tournament.
Shipley enters the 2010 season as one of Texas A&M's top returning players. She led the Aggie soccer team with 27 points and nine assists last season, and was an All-Big 12 first team selection and an All-Central Region first team member. In addition, Shipley was named honorable mention to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Women's College Soccer Team of the Season and was a finalist for the Soccer News Net Player of the Year award.
Texas A&M kicks off the 2010 season at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 14 with an exhibition match against Rice, before the first official game of the season at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 20 against the back-to-back defending national champion North Carolina. Both matches are held at the Aggie Soccer Stadium.
