COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M men's tennis player Colin Hoover (Victoria, Texas) recently captured the singles title at an ITA Summer Circuit tournament hosted by McMurry University and Abilene Christian in Abilene, Texas.
Hoover, the top seed in the 64-player draw, defeated fellow Aggie teammate Austin Klores (Franklin, Texas), 7-6, 6-4, in the finals. Klores beat Jake Hendrie, 6-3, 6-2, in the semifinals, while Hoover eliminated Bryan Griffin, 7-6, 6-3, en route to the title match.
Both players also reached the finals of the 32-team doubles draw with an 8-4 victory over Alex Hillard and Andrew Maingot in the semifinals, but lost an 8-3 decision to Tyler Brown and Jack Hendrie in the title round.
Hoover will next compete in the U.S. Open National Playoffs - Men's Championship to be held on July 22-25 at the Atlanta Athletic Club in Atlanta, Ga. The U.S. Open National Playoffs expand the footprint of the U.S. Open and provide the opportunity for all players 14 years of age and older to earn a wild card into the 2010 U.S. Open Qualifying Tournament to be held in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. in August.
