COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M senior quarterback Jerrod Johnson, who has already earned his undergraduate degree in kinesiology, has been announced as a nominee for the prestigious Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.

"I am honored to be a nominee for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team," Johnson said. "My parents taught me the importance of helping others by their actions as educators and as foster parents."

Johnson, from Humble, Texas, has been mentioned for many national awards including the Manning, O'Brien, and Unitas Awards as well as a Heisman Trophy candidate. Johnson has volunteered many hours in the Bryan-College Station community and did his student teaching at both an elementary and local high school. He is working on his master's degree in education.

"Jerrod is an excellent overall person," Aggie Head Coach Mike Sherman said. "Not only is he one of the best quarterbacks in the country, he is a good student and truly cares about others. He backs up his talk of helping others with his actions and he is a good leader on our football team as well."

The 112 student-athletes who have been nominated are the most ever. The Allstate Insurance Company along with the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) recognized these football student-athletes who are committed to serving others and making an impact off of the field, as well as on the gridiron.

From the nominees submitted by sports information directors on behalf of their schools, a special voting panel consisting of former Good Works Team members and prominent college football media members is responsible for selecting two 11-player Good Works Teams--one comprised of players from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision and another representing players from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, Divisions II, III and the NAIA--to be announced in September. College Football Hall of Fame member and ESPN broadcaster Lou Holtz is returning for a third year to serve as spokesperson for the program and raise awareness for the stories of the nominees and team members.

"For the third straight year, the AFCA is pleased to partner with Allstate in highlighting football student-athletes who have achieved outstanding success, both on and off the football field," said Grant Teaff, AFCA Executive Director. "From the record total of nominees that were submitted from colleges and universities around the country, it is apparent that collegiate football is producing some of the best and brightest that our country has to offer."
