MONCTON, Canada - Placing fifth in the semifinal of the 100 hurdles in 13.79 seconds prevented Texas A&M's Donique' Flemings from reaching the final at the IAAF World Junior Championship on Wednesday evening.
"I didn't finish as well as I wanted to finish, but there is not much I can do about it since the race is done," Flemings said. "I didn't know where I was on the track in terms of what place I was in and it cost me."
The top three hurdlers from the two semifinal races automatically advanced to the final along with the two fastest time qualifiers. The fourth place finisher ahead of Flemings clocked 13.76. Flemings only option in advancing was for the fourth place finisher in the second heat to run 13.80 or slower.
However, the hurdlers who placed fourth and fifth in the next semifinal race recorded times of 13.73 and 13.77 to prevent Flemings from making the final field of eight hurdlers. The second semifinal was claimed by Penn State's Evonne Britton in 13.58 while the winning time in the first semifinal was 13.49.
