COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Many of the region's top collegiate men and women's tennis players are converging at Texas A&M's George P. Mitchell Tennis Center this weekend to compete in the ITA Summer Circuit.
Men's play begins Friday at 10 a.m. and is slated to conclude Monday morning. First serve for the women is scheduled for Friday at 12:20 p.m. with the championship match to be played Sunday.
Admission to the four-day tournament is free.
Several Aggies will be competing in the four-day event. A&M sophomore-to-be Alberto Bautista (McAllen, Texas) is the No. 1 seed on the men's side, and Aggie junior Colin Hoover (Victoria, Texas) is the No. 2 seed in the 106-player field. In addition, junior Austin Klores (Franklin, Texas) is seeded No. 6 and senior Kayvon Karimi (Dallas) is seeded No. 9-16. Aggie sophomore Beau Blackshear (Brentwood, Tenn.) also will be competing.
Janelle Cuthbertson (Perth, Australia) represents the Aggies in the women's tournament and is the No. 1 seed in the 57-player field.
Blackshear will be the first of the A&M players to take the court as he faces Michael Williams of Austin, Texas, in the first round beginning Friday at 10 a.m. The other four Aggie men's players received first-round byes.
Cuthbertson also received a first-round bye and will take the court Friday at 3:20 p.m.
Doubles draws will be announced and posted on AggieAthletics.com on Friday.
