EUGENE, Ore. - Texas A&M's Cameron Peck fired a final-round, four-under-par 67 on Friday to earn a third-place finish at the 44th Pacific Coast Amateur Championship held at Eugene Country Club.
The sophomore all-region honoree shot a 71-71-73-67=282 this week to finish five strokes back of the champion, Andrew Putnam. His 67 on Friday was the second-best round of the entire tournament.
Peck looks to join a pair of Aggie teammates who have already earned spots in the U.S. Amateur Championship when he participates in a qualifier next week.
Senior Conrad Shindler shot a 67-68=135 to win his qualifier on Monday and Tuesday at Riverhill Country Club in Kerrville, while All-American Andrea Pavan--who wrapped his A&M career this past May--earned a spot after shooting 69-69=138 on Tuesday and Wednesday at The Woodlands Country Club. Also looking to make the field through a qualifier next week is sophomore Case Cochran.
Approximately 100 sites around the country play host to a sectional qualifying round. The U.S. Amateur is scheduled to be played Aug. 23-29 at Chambers Bay Golf Course outside Tacoma, Wash.
