COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Coming off a Big 12 Tournament championship and a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Championships, the Texas A&M women's basketball team has an exciting slate of games with a rugged non-conference schedule combined with the always tough Big 12 Conference ledger.
              Â
"When you combine our non-conference schedule with the difficulty of the Big 12 Conference it is easy to see why we have one of the top RPIs in the country," Aggie head coach Gary Blair said. "Our program has reached a point of national prominence and our schedule will be challenging, but it will also be exciting for our fans."
              Â
"I am excited that our annual matchup with Texas will be played after the students return from the Christmas break," Blair said. "We should have a great crowd."
The Aggies have defeated Texas eight consecutive times on the hardwood, including all three meetings last year.
              Â
"Because of our uptempo, tough-defense style of play, the television executives love to put us on and for the third straight year we have been selected to play on Big Monday," Blair explained. "Our games with Baylor are entertaining and exciting and that Monday in Waco will be more of the same."
"Folks that know me know that I am a traditionalist," Blair said. "I like the league schedule and the fact that we open Big 12 play with Colorado here at home and end the year with the Nebraska Cornhuskers coming to Reed Arena in their last year in the league."
              Â
The Aggies have finished in the top 10 of the final Associated Press Top 25 Poll the past three seasons and this year 11 of the Aggies' 13 non-conference foes advanced to post-season play a year ago. League foes Baylor, Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Iowa State and Nebraska joined the Aggies in reaching the NCAA Championships while Texas Tech and Kansas advanced to the Women's NIT.
              Â
Highlighting the non-conference schedule will be tournament appearances in the Jimmy V Women's Basketball Classic against perennial power and 2010 Elite Eight participant Duke on Dec. 6 at Cameron Indoor Stadium in a game televised by ESPN2. The Maggie Dixon Classic will feature A&M against Rutgers on Dec. 19 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Defending national champion Connecticut and Big 10 power Ohio State are also among the tournament field.
              Â
The home portion of the schedule begins on Nov. 16 at Reed Arena against the 2010 Sun Belt Conference champion and NCAA second round participant Arkansas-Little Rock. The Aggies have compiled an overall 69-7 (.908) home record the past five years under Blair's direction. The Aggies have 14 regular-season home games on the docket.
