TEMPE, Ariz. - Former Texas A&M soccer standout and student assistant Paige Carmichael was hired as an assistant coach for the Arizona State women's soccer program, it was announced on Monday.
From Glendale, Ariz., Carmichael most recently served as a volunteer strength and conditioning coach at A&M where she assisted in the instruction of teams in lifting, conditioning and agility drills. In 2008, she served as a student assistant for Texas A&M and coached a U12 girls team in College Station, Texas.
During her playing career, Carmichael earned Big 12 All-Conference honors and was a two-time member of the Big 12 All-Tournament Team, including being named the tournament's defensive MVP in 2005. She was also selected to the NSCAA/adidas and Soccer Buzz All-Central Region first teams in 2006.
A mainstay on the Aggie backline as a defensive midfielder, Carmichael was a three-time choice for the team's Perseverance award, which is given to the player with the never-say-die attitude who overcomes all obstacles. She was also twice selected for the team's Iron Aggie award which is given to the player who achieves the most in the weight room.
The NSCAA Strength and Conditioning All-American was a captain her junior and senior seasons and played a big role in leading the Aggies to the NCAA Tournament four consecutive years, including an appearance in the Elite Eight in 2006. In addition, Texas A&M captured the Big 12 regular season title during each season of Carmichael's career, including the Big 12 Tournament championship in 2004 and 2005.
Carmichael, who also gained professional club experience playing for FC Indiana in 2009, earned her B.S. in sports management from Texas A&M in 2008.
