Texas A&M golfer Julia Boland advanced to the match play portion of the 110th U.S. Women's Amateur Championships after finishing in a tie for 14th in stroke play on Tuesday at the Charlotte Country Club.

Boland, who exhausted her collegiate eligibility last spring, finished stroke play at 1-over after firing rounds of 72 and 73. Boland, from Tamworth, New South Wales, Australia, will tee off against Gabriela Then of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., at 12 noon on Wednesday. Then tied for 40th in stroke play with rounds of 77-71.

Senior-to-be Sarah Zwartynski, who won the Texas State Amateur earlier this summer, just missed the cut after finishing in tie for 64th at 7-over with rounds of 77 and 74. Incoming Aggie freshmen Chelsea Mocio and Natalie Reeves also missed the cut.

The 2010 U.S. Women's Amateur will continue with the second- and third-round matches on Thursday. The quarterfinal matches are on Friday, the semifinals are on Saturday and the 36-hole championship final will be played Sunday.

The U.S. Women's Amateur is one of 13 championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs.
