COLLEGE STATION, Texas - With the start of the 2010 season just 10 days away, the Texas A&M soccer team earned a preseason No. 8 ranking in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) top 25 poll.
It marked the Aggie soccer program's 15th consecutive season to be ranked in the preseason top 15 and 10th overall to crack the preseason top 10. In addition, A&M was the only team in the nation to break into the top 10 from its final 2009 ranking of 13th.
The strong preseason ranking comes as Texas A&M returns 11 starters and 19 letterwinners from its NCAA Sweet 16 squad. A&M also welcomes back three extra starters in Raven Tatum and Sara Ellis and Rachel Lenz are the talented new additions to the team.
The Aggies take on five opponents ranked in the top 25, the first of which is No. 1 North Carolina at the Aggie Soccer Stadium on Aug. 20. A&M also faces No. 5 Portland (Sept. 17) on the road, and welcomes No. 15 Virginia Tech (Aug. 27), No. 21 Washington State (Aug. 29) and No. 22 Oklahoma State (Oct. 24) for home matches in Aggieland.
