"I thought it went pretty well," Aggie head coach Mike Sherman said after the afternoon practice. "It was pretty hot this morning and they had to battle through some things there. It was a give and take type of practice, but I thought they did well and then came back in the afternoon and practiced well and competed. That's what I was looking for."
           Â
Among the visitors at the morning practice were the senior leadership of Texas A&M's famed Corps of Cadets in their senior boots and 1957 Heisman Trophy winner and former A&M Director of Athletics John David Crow. Watching from the sidelines at the afternoon workout was former standout tight end Greg Schorp, who was most famous for reeling in the winning touchdown catch to beat Bill Walsh's Stanford Cardinal in the 1992 Pigskin Classic.
           Â
Sherman was asked about the progress of freshman walkon Louie Swope, who is the younger brother of sophomore wide receiver Ryan Swope.
      Â
"I think Louie's doing a good job," Sherman said. "I watched him in high school when he was at (Austin) Westlake, and he was an aggressive, downhill safety. He doesn't know what he's doing half the time out here but he's going a 100 miles per hour doing it, so it's neat to see that. Eventually he'll get caught up in this scheme and I think he'll really help us.
           Â
The reporters at practice observantly noted that senior defensive lineman Lucas Patterson, who is typically an inside player, saw action at defensive end on Wednesday.
      Â
"We just wanted to take a look at him there a little bit and just see," Sherman said. "He's played some nose and we just wanted to cover ourselves. I wanted to go 10 practices and keep people pretty much status quo, and then today we moved some guys around a little bit - just looking at them in different positions. Whether it stays that way remains to be seen."
      Â
The Aggies return to the practice field with an 8:25 a.m. practice on the Coolidge Fields on Thursday.
