COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Aggie football team scrimmaged at Kyle Field on Saturday without the services of over 10 players who had various injuries that kept them out of contact.

"We did get to see a lot of players," Texas A&M head coach Mike Sherman said. "We will have some good tape to watch and an opportunity to improve in all areas of the game. We did have some guys miss the scrimmage but that gives other players opportunities for work and for them to get better."

Sherman mentioned freshmen running backs Ben Malena (from Cedar Hill High School) and Mister Jones (from Littleton High School in Littleton, CO).

The Aggie players will have Sunday off from meetings and practice and will return to the practice field on Monday at 8:25 a.m. on the Coolidge grass practice fields.

"We would like to get them off of their legs and get them some rest tomorrow," Sherman explained. "Hopefully, they're not off shopping and walking around the malls. I would encourage them to attend church services of their preference."

A couple of former A&M football players attended the scrimmage. Quarterback John Elkins, from Lee High School in Baytown, lettered in 1981-82 and 1984 for the Aggies. Former linebacker Jason Atkinson, from Westfield High School in Houston, lettered from 1990-93 and earned All-SWC honors during his career.

The Aggies open the 2010 season in two weeks on Sept. 4 against Stephen F. Austin with kick scheduled for 6 p.m. at Kyle Field. For ticket information, call 1-888-99-AGGIE (888-992-4443) or go to AggieAthletics.com and click on tickets.
