"I think we've had a good camp, they're working hard," Texas A&M head coach Mike Sherman said. "We've had a couple clunkers where I thought at some positions we could have done a little better, but that's part of two-a-days."
In the morning practice former Bryan High School coach Marty Criswell watched the Aggies go through drills, while the squad was paid a visit in the afternoon by former Texas A&M head coach R.C. Slocum.
Sherman was asked by the media following the evening practice about getting his offensive line depth ready for the season.
"I'd like to get 10 (offensive linemen ready to step in) if we could, but I'm shooting for eight right now. That is trying to prepare for the inevitable that somebody will get hurt during the season and we are going to have to mix and match some people. Instead of waiting for that game week to get here we are trying to get some of that done now."
Media members at the practice sessions noted that freshman offensive lineman Jake Matthews saw time with the first team offensive unit and asked Sherman about the development of the Missouri City product.
"Jake has done a fine job; he makes a lot of progress every single day. I see every day he learns a little bit more. There is a lot of terminology, the tempo is pretty fast and everything comes off a signal. Plus you don't huddle and the ball is being snapped every 15 seconds, so there is a lot on these kids. The other kids were able to grow into it during the spring, but these guys don't have that opportunity so it's going to take some work. Jake is doing fine. He's a very talented young man, who works very hard and is a tough and physical kid."
The Aggies will take the field for a single practice on Wednesday which will be closed to both the public and media members.
