COLLEGE STATION, Texas - An early Friday morning practice inside the McFerrin Athletic Center marked the completion of fall camp for the Texas A&M football team. The Aggies now proceed with game week preparations for the Sept. 4 season opener against Stephen F. Austin at Kyle Field.
Following the workout, Aggie head coach Mike Sherman spoke with members of the media about the progress his team has made during its fall camp.
"I think we've made a lot of strides," Sherman said. "You can just look at how we practice and the speed of practice without pads from how we've looked in the past. They are practicing at a high rate of speed and are competing regularly. We try to go good-vs-good as often as we can to raise the level of competition. From the first period of practice through the last period of practice there is always something competitive. I think we've made strides from the beginning of camp, but the really good teams make strides every week during the season as well. That is where you really get better, once you start playing other people and see who you are along with what your strength and weakness are. Then you try to fix them and move on."
Sherman also commented on the Aggies' schedule for the weekend and their preparations for the season opener against the Lumberjacks.
"We've already begun the preparations in the offseason. Nothing has changed since their last ball game to where we are right now, so we have the game plan in for the most part. Our guys will meet again and we'll have a walk through, but I'm going to try to get them out of here around lunch time so they have some time to go home and spend with their families if they live nearby."
