COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M softball head coach Jo Evans announced the addition of sophomore infielder Brittany Walker to the 2010-11 roster on Monday. Walker transfers to A&M after playing one year at the University of Florida.

"Brittany will be a great addition to our ballclub," Evans said. "We recruited her when she was playing at Klein Oak High School, so I am very familiar with her talents. We expect Brittany to make an immediate impact on our program and to challenge for the starting position at shortstop."

From Tomball, Texas, Walker played in 53 games as a freshman shortstop last season for the Gators, who finished 49-10 and advanced to the Women's College World Series. As a member of the Southeastern Conference All-Freshman Team, she registered a .250 batting average with 30 hits, 25 runs and eight stolen bases in 11 attempts. Walker tallied six multi-hit games and three multiple-RBI games. She had a career performance in a doubleheader at No. 16 Florida State, going 4-for-7 with two RBIs. Walker hit her first career triple against Ole Miss while going 2-for-3 with a double and a career-best four RBIs.

An Under Armour All-American, Walker was a 2009 graduate of Klein Oak High School and led her team in batting average her junior (.500) and senior (.524) seasons. She earned All-Greater Houston first team honors in 2008, Houston Chronicle first-team accolades in 2009, and was a two-time all-district first team member. Walker started her high school softball career at Jersey Valley High School and played travel ball for the Texas Eclipse, which participated in the Amateur Softball Association of America (ASA) 18-and-Under Gold National Championship Tournament in '08.

"Brittany is very athletic and comes to us with a year of collegiate experience under her belt, and the familiarity of having played in the Women's College World Series as a freshman," Evans added. "She is a lefty slapper with very good speed who will be a threat on the base paths."

Walker will start workouts this fall with the Aggie softball team and will have three years of eligibility remaining.
