BRYAN, Texas - The Texas A&M women's golf team fired a 9-over-par 297 Monday and sits in 11th place after the first round of the 2010 Fall Preview, presented by Callaway Golf, at Traditions Club.

The Aggies are 20 strokes back of leader Georgia, who scorched the course with a course record 11-under-par 277. The 13th-ranked Bulldogs have a seven-stroke lead over the second-place team, No. 10 Vanderbilt (284, -4). No. 4 Alabama (-2) is in third place, followed by No. 16 LSU (-1), No. 3 USC (+1), No. 6 Duke (+5), No. 2 UCLA (+5), No. 22 Tulane (+6), No. 8 Wake Forest (+7) and No. 7 Auburn (+8),

"I feel pretty good about our round today," head coach Trelle McCombs said. "With a very young team, I really didn't know what to expect. I think now that we have our first round done, it may be a little easier for them to breathe and make a few."

No. 23 Michigan State and Texas are tied for 12th at 11-over, while No. 1 Purdue (+12), No. 9 Virginia (+15), No. 17 Tennessee (+16), No. 14 Pepperdine (+19) and No. 11 Stanford (+19) round out the field.

Senior Sarah Beth Davis is tied for 30th with a 74 (+2), while freshmen Chelsea Mocio and Katerina Ruzickova both fired a 76 (+4) and are tied for 51st. Sophomore Aly Smith is tied for 83rd with an 8-over par 80. Freshman Janell Lysack, competing as an individual, is in a tie for 73rd following a 78.

"Sarah played solid today," McCombs said. "She didn't really make many mistakes, just a hiccup on the 15th. Other than that she was very solid."

Alabama's Brooke Pancake leads the pack after totaling a 7-under 65, which tied the course record. Three others--Vanderbilt's Marina Alex, Georgia's Emilie Burger and UCLA's Lee Lopez--are two strokes back.

The Fall Preview continues at Traditions on Tuesday morning. Round two gets underway at 8 a.m. and admission is free of charge. The Aggies are scheduled to tee off beginning at 8 a.m. from the 10th hole. Fans can follow the action with live scoring through golfstat.com.
