Texas A&M senior quarterback Jerrod Johnson was named one of five Manning Award “Stars of the Week” on Monday after rolling up 399 yards of total offense in the Aggies' 48-16 win over Louisiana Tech last Saturday. In addition, Johnson received honorable mention National Quarterback of the Week honors from the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA).
The Big 12 Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, Johnson completed 25-of-38 (65.9 percent) passes for 349 yards and four touchdowns, and also added 50 rushing yards on eight carries against the Bulldogs. It was the fourth straight 300-plus passing game for Johnson, and the 10th of his career. Johnson connected with Biletnikoff Award watch lister Uzoma Nwachukwu on a pair of touchdowns, including a 44-yard 'Hail Mary' to end the first half. He also threw strikes to Jeff Fuller and Ryan Tannehill.
Also receiving honors for a strong game against Louisiana Tech were true freshman 'joker' Damontre Moore and sophomore punt returner Dustin Harris.
Moore was named the National Defensive Performer of the Week by the CFPA, after coming off the bench to make seven tackles, including two quarterback sacks and three total tackles for loss. Moore also forced three fumbles and recovered one.
Harris took National Punt Returner of the Week after taking a return 54 yards for a touchdown. It was the first punt return for a touchdown by an Aggie since 1998 when Jason Webster scored on a 44-yarder against Oklahoma.
