COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Following an impressive summer playing for the Brazos Valley Bombers of the Texas Collegiate League, Texas A&M baseball senior Nick Fleece was named this week to a list of top summer league prospects by Baseball America.
BA ranked the top 30 prospects for the talent-rich Cape Cod League, the top 20 prospects in the Northwoods League and the top 10 prospects in 16 other summer college leagues, including the Texas Collegiate League in which Fleece played.
Appearing in four games for the Bombers over the summer, Fleece compiled a perfect 2-0 record while not yielding an earned run in 14.2 innings of work. The Fort Worth, Texas, native also struck out 19 batters while allowing just four walks and holding opponents to a batting average of .105.
No stranger to success, Fleece leads all active Aggies with 43 career appearances since joining the team out of Boswell High School prior to the 2008 season. In 66.1 career innings Fleece has compiled a 5-3 record with a 3.66 ERA and 55/15 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Last season was another solid campaign for Fleece as he went 1-2 with a 3.76 ERA in 38.1 innings.
Fleece and the rest of the Aggies begin fall practices on Monday, Sept. 20, as they begin the drive for a fifth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance under head coach Rob Childress.
