BRYAN, Texas - The Texas A&M women's golf team wrapped up play in the 2010 Fall Preview (presented by Callaway Golf) by setting a school course record Wednesday at Traditions Club.
The Aggies' three-round total of 297-306-299=902 (+38) was the lowest ever posted by an A&M team at Traditions, which opened in 2004. A&M finished 16th overall in a field that featured 13 of the country's top 20 teams and one that shattered all six major course records over the course of the week.
No. 4 Alabama won the tournament with a course-record 849 (-15), one stroke better than 16th-ranked LSU (850, -14). No. 3 USC (-8) finished third, followed by No. 6 Duke (-4), No. 13 Georgia (E), No. 10 Vanderbilt (+2), No. 2 UCLA (+5), No. 9 Virginia (+13), No. 22 Tulane (+14) and No. 1 Purdue (+19).
23rd-ranked Michigan State (+30) placed 11th, followed by No. 7 Auburn (+31), Texas (+34), No. 8 Wake Forest (+34), No. 14 Pepperdine (+35), the Aggies (+38), No. 11 Stanford (+46) and No. 17 Tennessee (+48).
Senior Sarah Zwartynski was Texas A&M's top finisher after recording a 4-over par 220 (71-72-77), good for 30th place. Her three-round total was the second best tournament score ever by an Aggie at Traditions Club.
Sophomore Sarah Beth Davis (74-75-76=225, +9) placed 50th, with freshmen Katerina Ruzickova (76-78-73=227, +11) and Chelsea Mocio (76-81-79=236, +20) and sophomore Aly Smith (80-85-73=238, +22) rounding out the Aggie squad. Freshman Janell Lysack, competing as an individual, shot 78-81-77=236 (+20) for the week.
LSU's Megan McChrystal set the overall course record in earning medalist honors, riding a final-round 65 to a 10-under 206 and a two-shot victory. McChrystal was the third player at the Fall Preview to shoot a 65, the course record.
Texas A&M returns to action Sept. 26-28 when the Aggies compete at the Golfweek Conference Championship at Red Sky Ranch in Vail, Colo.
