COSTA MESA, CA - Texas A&M's Austin Krajicek defeated his first-round opponent, Luis-Antonio Perez-Perez, 3-6, 7-6 (1), 6-2 in the Costa Mesa Pro Classic held at the Costa Mesa Tennis Center in California.
Krajicek is a senior three-time All-American from Brandon, Florida, and is the top-ranked Big 12 tennis player in singles coming in ranked #12 overall in the pre-season ITA Tennis Rankings. Krajicek, the 2010 Co-Big 12 Player of the Year, posted a 19-7 record at the No. 1 position last spring.
              Â
Krajicek faced Spain's Perez-Perez in the first round of the 32-man main draw.
              Â
"It was a long and very close match today," Krajicek said. "It's kind of tough coming back after about a month off from playing tournaments. Toward the end of the second set, I started moving better. Luis-Antonio is a very solid player, but I made better ground strokes toward the end of the match. It's good to be back on the court."
              Â
Krajicek's next match will be played on Thursday and he will face the winner of Wednesday's first-round match between the tournament's #1-seed, Fabrice Martin of France, and American Sekou Bangoura.
