COSTA MESA, CA - Texas A&M's Austin Krajicek continued his run at the Costa Mesa Pro Classic held at the Costa Mesa Tennis Center in California by disposing of the sixth seed, Dimitar Kutrovsky from Bulgaria, 7-6 (5), 0-6, 6-2. With the win, Krajicek advances to the semifinals against the third seed, Fritz Wolmarans from South Africa.
“Dimitar and I are very familiar with one another and most of the time our matches go three sets and we knew it would be a very tough match,” Krajicek said. “The first set was very close and I had a good tiebreaker to win the first set. He got an early break in the second set and it just snowballed on me. But in the third set, I was able to put it all together and really played well. I got an early break and was able to close out the match.”
Krajicek is a senior three-time NCAA All-American from Brandon, Florida, and is the top-ranked Big 12 tennis player in singles coming in ranked #12 overall in the pre-season ITA Tennis Rankings. Krajicek, the 2010 Co-Big 12 Player of the Year, posted a 19-7 record at the No. 1 position last spring.
After an opening round win against Spain's Luis-Antonio Perez-Perez in the field of 32, Krajicek disposed of the top seed, Fabrice Martin from France before taking out the sixth seed, Dimitar Kutrovsky. Krajicek is the only non-seeded player left in the semifinals.
Wolmarans defeated Jordan Cox of the USA, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. Wolmarans is from Cape Town, South Africa, and he reached as high as 297 in 2007 in the World Rankings.
Wolmarans is the third seed, while in the other semifinal match it will be Robbye Poole from the USA who is the fourth seed taking on the second seed Daniel Garza from Mexico.
