COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The three-time Big 12 Champion Texas A&M women's basketball team was ranked as high as No. 7 in the Athlon Sports preseason poll and was also listed at No. 10 by Lindy's Sports and No. 15 by Sporting News. In addition, Sporting News also selected senior Danielle Adams as a preseason All-American.
Head coach Gary Blair begins his eighth year at the helm of Aggie women's basketball as A&M returns three starters from a 2009-10 squad that finished the season with a 26-8 overall record and its fifth straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
Adams, a 6-foot-1 combination forward/center and member of the 2010-11 Wade Trophy Watch List, was named to the Sporting News' Preseason All-America third team. She was tabbed the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year as well as the Big 12 Tournament Most Outstanding Player as a junior. From Kansas City, Mo., Adams averaged a team-leading 16.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game off the bench. She was a finalist for the prestigious 10-member State Farm All-America Team and an All-Big 12 Second Team and AP All-America Honorable Mention selection.
Six league squads received recognition in the preseason polls.
Connecticut, the two-time defending national champion, is ranked No. 1 in all three polls.
