Aggie Women Finish 11th at Golfweek Conference Challenge

WOLCOTT, Colo. --- The Texas A&M women's golf team moved up one spot in the final round to finish 11th at the Golfweek Conference Challenge at the Fazio Course at Red Sky Golf Club on Tuesday.            

The Aggies finished with a three-round total of 932 and trailed Virginia, Arizona, Tulane, UC Davis, Tennessee, UNLV, Denver, Minnesota, Pepperdine and Chattanooga. Rounding out the complete standings were San Jose State, Harvard, Missouri State, Coastal Carolina, Campbell, Sacramento State and Central Arkansas.

“We may have a bigger learning curve than expected this year,” Aggie coach Trelle McCombs said. “We are looking at these early-season tournaments just as that. We will continue to work hard and get ready for our next tournament.”
A&M freshman Katerina Ruzickova shined in the final round with a 1-under par 71 as she climbed 17 spots to 21st-place on the individual leaderboard. For the tournament, Ruzickova was 8-over with rounds of 77-76-71=224.

“Katerina played really solid all day long,” McCombs said. “She looked like the player we recruited - just all-around solid.”

Sophomore Sarah Beth Davis shot a 4-over 76 and finished in a tie for 26th at 10-over with a three-round score of 72-78-76=26.  Freshman Chelsea Mocio tied for 71st with rounds of 79-80-83=242. Senior Sarah Zwartynski tied for 80th with rounds of 85-80-81=246. Sophomore Aly Smith tied for 86th with rounds of 79-84-86=249.

The Aggies will return to action at the Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C. on Oct. 8-10.
