Record-Setting Offensive Game Undone by Turnovers
The Aggie offense generated an eye-catching 106 offensive plays, the most in school history, and gained 535 yards, but the recent nemesis of turnovers thwarted A&M's upset bid. The most offensive plays previously ever run by the Aggies was 103 in a 74-10 win over TCU at Kyle Field in 1986. The 535 total yards was A&M's third 500-plus effort of the year and the 10th time in the last 17 games since switching to the up-tempo, no huddle offense prior to the 2009 season. The Aggies controlled the ball for 38:32 of the 60-minute game.
For all their offensive success, the Aggies were hamstrung by five turnovers (four interceptions and a lost fumble) that were turned into 17 points by the Cowboys. After playing turnover-free in the season-opener, the Aggies have given up 14 turnovers in the last three games - four vs. Louisiana Tech, five vs. FIU and five vs. Oklahoma State.
Johnson Breaks Passing Career Mark, A&M's First 7,000-Yard Passer
Senior quarterback Jerrod Johnson became the all-time passing leader and A&M's first-ever 7,000-passer with a huge statistical game against Oklahoma State. Johnson broke the old passing record of 6,992 yards set by Reggie McNeal from 2002-05. Johnson is the lone 7,000-yard passer at a school with just three 6,000-yard passers in its history (McNeal, Corey Pullig and Kevin Murray).
Johnson's huge statistical game featured 40-of-62 passing for 409 yards and five touchdowns. He broke the single game record for completions (old record 34 by Branndon Stewart vs. Colorado, 1996) and flirted with the school mark for passing yards (419 vs Johnson vs. Kansas State, 2008), attempts (64 by Stewart vs. Colorado, 1996) and touchdowns (7 by Dustin Long vs. Texas Tech, 2002).
Fuller Grabs TD and TD Record
Junior Jerrod Johnson in the first quarter. Fuller had matched Bob Long' 42-year old record of 19 that was originally set from 1967-67 by the All-Southwest Conference end. Fuller grabbed another TD catch later to raise his record to 21 and finished the game with eight catches for 69 yards.
C-Mike Falls Just Short of 4th Straight 100-Yard Game
Sophomore Christine Michael fell just short of his fourth straight 100-yard rushing game with 97 yards on 24 carries.
