Several members of the Texas A&M women's swimming team will compete in the fourth annual American Swimming Association Open Water Collegiate National Championships at 9 a.m. on Saturday at Mansfield Dam Park on Lake Travis.

Taking part in the 5,000-meter open water competition for the defending Big 12 Champion Aggies will be: senior Liliana Ibañez, Erica Dittmer, Lara Slesnick and Wylie Escobedo.

“This is the first time we've participated in the open water nationals,” Aggie head coach Steve Bultman said. “It fit into our schedule this year, and I think it will be a benefit for our distance girls. Open water swimming is definitely different from racing in a pool. It's something new and different for most of our team and it can be beneficial and fun for them.”

The college accumulating the most points from women enrolled at that college will be named ASA Open Water Swimming Women's Collegiate National Champions, and the first-third place women will also be honored.
