IRVING, Texas - The Texas A&M basketball team was picked to finish sixth in a vote of the Big 12 head coaches, the league office announced Tuesday.

The top six teams in the Big 12 have advanced to the NCAA Tournament eight times since 2000, with the top seven getting bids last spring.

Kansas State was chosen the preseason favorite, taking 10 of the 12 possible first-place votes. Kansas was second, followed by Texas, Baylor, Missouri and the Aggies. Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Colorado, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Iowa State rounded out the poll.

A&M was picked fifth in last year's preseason poll before finishing in a tie for second place.

The Aggies return 10 letterwinners, including three starters, from a 2010 team that won 24 games and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the fifth consecutive season.

Texas A&M opens the season against Alcorn State on Friday, Nov. 12 at Reed Arena. The Aggies will host St. Mary's in an exhibition on Tuesday, Nov. 2. Season tickets are available now by calling 888-99-AGGIE or by logging on to aggieathletics.com.
