DALLAS - The Texas A&M basketball team will renew an old Southwest Conference rivalry this holiday season when the Aggies take part in "The Showcase" college basketball doubleheader on Saturday, Dec. 18 at American Airlines Center in Dallas.

A&M will face Arkansas in the first game of the day at 1 p.m., with a game between Baylor and Gonzaga following at 3:30 p.m. Both contests will be televised nationally by ESPN2. The doubleheader is the first of what is planned as annual event in Dallas that will highlight top college basketball each season.

"Anytime we can play a game in Dallas, it's a great experience for our players," head coach Mark Turgeon said. "To play in an NBA arena, in what will be an NCAA Tournament atmosphere, and to play in front of some fans that maybe don't get a chance to see us in person all that often, is a great opportunity. Going to Dallas and seeing 8,000 to 10,000 Aggie fans would mean a lot to us."

The Aggies and Razorbacks will be meeting on the hardwood for the 147th time this winter, but for the first time since 1991.

The game will be just the second regular-season contest in Dallas for A&M basketball since 1981, and the Aggies' first-ever at AAC in the regular season. The venue has hosted several Big 12 Championships, most recently in 2006.

A quadrant of the arena has been assigned to each fan base, much like an NCAA Tournament layout. Tickets are available now through the 12th Man Foundation Ticket Center for as low as $23. For information or to order, log on to tickets.12thmanfoundation.com or call 888-99-AGGIE.

The Aggies return 10 letterwinners, including three starters, from a 2010 team that won 24 games and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the fifth consecutive season.

Texas A&M opens the season against Alcorn State on Friday, Nov. 12 at Reed Arena. The Aggies will host St. Mary's in an exhibition on Tuesday, Nov. 2. Season tickets are available now by contacting the ticket office.
