COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M senior Danielle Adams (Kansas City, Mo.) was named to the Preseason All-Big 12 Women's Basketball Team as announced by the conference on Tuesday.
Adams, a 6-foot-1 combination forward/center, was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year and to the All-Big 12 Second Team last season. She was also selected Most Outstanding Player of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Women's Basketball Championship. Adams led the Aggies by averaging 16.3 points and 5.8 rebounds a year ago.
She earned the preseason accolade on top of being named to the 2010-11 Wade Trophy Watch List, the John R. Wooden Award Preseason Top 30 List, and as a Preseason All-American by the Sporting News'.
Two additional Aggies, senior Sydney Colson (Houston, Texas) and junior Tyra White (Kansas City, Mo.), were named Preseason All-Big 12 honorable mention.
Colson turned in her second-straight 100+ assist season with a team-high 129 along with a 1.90 assist-to-turnover ratio. She averaged 7.3 points and 3.8 assists per game in 2009-10. White shot a team-best 52.7 percent from the floor and 38.4 percent from beyond the three-point arc. The Big 12 All-Tournament Team selection averaged the third-most points on the team (10.6) along with 4.1 rebounds per game.
Baylor claimed all three individual awards. Brittney Griner was selected Preseason Player of the Year, Brooklyn Pope captured Preseason Newcomer of the Year and Odyssey Sims was chosen Preseason Freshman of the Year by the league's head coaches. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players.
Joining Adams on the Preseason All-Big 12 Team were Griner and Melissa Jones (Baylor), Kelsey Bolte (Iowa State) and Danielle Robinson (Oklahoma).
