COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas A&M softball team earned a victory in its final fall game with a 6-0 shutout of McLennan on Tuesday evening at the Aggie Softball Complex.
The Aggies (7-1) blanked five of their eight opponents this fall as sophomore Melissa Dumezich and redshirt junior Lindsey Sisk combined for eight strikeouts and the clean sheet in the circle.
A&M took advantage of a lead-off walk to start the scoring early in the bottom of the first. Freshman Taran Tyler drew the free pass and crossed the plate after sophomore Meagan May's one-out RBI single to left.
The Aggies left the bases loaded the bases in the second, but freshman Lauren Schwirtlich scored in the third off of a two-run double from senior Kelsey Spittler that landed a bounce away from the left-center wall.
Freshman Nicole Morgan made the score 4-0 in the fourth by plating freshman Cassie Tysarczyk from second with an RBI single.
A&M tacked on two more in the sixth when senior Missy Siegel laced a two-out, two-run double to right that scored senior Kara Rau and freshman Allison Garrett.
Dumezich (4-1) picked up the win in the circle after going four innings without allowing a hit or a walk and fanning five. Sisk threw the last three frames and gave up a pair of hits while striking out three.
Every A&M player had at least one at-bat and May was the only Aggie with multiple hits, going 2-for-2 with an RBI. Also adding singles in the game were Tysarczyk, junior Eden Morris and freshman Emily Albus.
The Aggies play the Maroon and White Series, a best-of-three intrasquad scrimmage, on Tuesday, Oct. 19, Wednesday, Oct. 20, and Thursday, Oct. 21 (if necessary). Each day play begins at 4 p.m. and admission is free to the public.
