FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas - Texas A&M women, paced by Katherine Devlin's fifth-place finish, scored 154 points to place third in team scoring at the Chile Pepper Festival hosted at the University of Arkansas' Agri Park.
Henrik Ingebrigtsen, a freshman from Norway who made his debut race with the Aggies, placed 14th to pace the A&M men to a fifth-place team finish with 241 points.
Oklahoma State won both team titles with Indiana placing second in both races. The Cowboys scored 22 points in the men's race, which included 50 teams, with Indiana runner-up with 73. Arkansas (74) finished third while Adams State (134) placed fourth.
Finishing behind the fifth-place Aggie men were Wyoming (292), Arkansas Little Rock (296), Massachusetts (310), Oklahoma Christian (329) and Texas-San Antonio (359).
In the women's race, which totaled 56 teams, OSU tallied 68 points to edge Indiana's 72. Finishing behind third-place A&M were Adams State (188), Oakland (254), Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (287), Alabama-Birmingham (337), Lipscomb (339), Wyoming (386) and Arkansas (389).
Devlin recorded her second top five finish of this season. She covered the 5,000-meter course in a time of 16 minutes, 54.56 seconds. Indiana's Sarah Pease won the race and was followed by Kristen McGlynn of Adams State, Holly Knight of Auburn, and Oklahoma State's Mihaela Susa.
"Finishing third overall is exciting for our team," Devlin said. "This meet was fun since it was a more relaxed race and the crowd was loud at different stages of the race.
"I just wanted to run really, really fast today in preparation for the Big 12 meet in two weeks. It was fun to get my edge back."
Ingebrigtsen, who covered the 10,000-meter course in 30:00.69, was among the lead pack from the start of the race. While the distance he raced today is a bit longer than he is accustomed, Ingebrigtsen charged along at a solid pace as the leading A&M runner.
"My race started off pretty good and I was in the lead after the first 80 meters," Ingebrigtsen stated. "In the first two miles I kept up with the lead pack. I love to compete and face new challenges.
"This is normally the time of the year that I start my cross country season. The 10,000 meters is a bit long for me, but I can handle it. It's good to be back in a competition mode."
The next pair of Aggie women to finish were Itzel Cetina and Haley Parsons, who placed 25th and 27th with times of 17:31.20 and 17:31.74. Amanda Jenkins clocked 17:48.23 to place 43rd (39th in team scoring) while Colbea Harris rounded out the team score, running 18:04.24 to finish 64th (58th).
Kasey McNorton led the next crew of A&M runners, clocking 18:07.58 (70th / 63rd). She was followed by Tara Upshaw, who ran 18:21.19 (97th / 85th), Gabby Salazar, in 18:44.29 (141st), and Sophie Blake in 19:17 (218th). There were 465 finishers in the women's race.
MacLean O'Donnell was the second Aggie men's finisher, placing 38th (33rd in team scoring) with a clocking of 30:32.42. Nathan Parker, another A&M frosh, finished in the third scoring position placing 64th (52nd) in 31:08.38.
The next pair of A&M finishers, fourth and fifth on the team to complete the team score, was Jimmy Welin, in 71st (58th) with a time of 31:14.73, and Kevin Burnett, in 110th (84th) at 31:51.85.
Ryan Miller led the next group of Aggies, clocking 32:03.83 to place 125th (94th) while Jordan Chappell finished around 130th, but his timing chip didn't register a time. Austin Geerts (149th / 112th) in 32:21.55 and Will Barry (154th) in 32:25.99 wrapped up the A&M squad among a field of 463 finishers.
Texas A&M will compete again on October 30 at the Big 12 Championships hosted by Oklahoma State in Stillwater.
